Straight edge is in no way against sex itself, just promiscuous sex (casual sex). Those of the straight edge lifestyle that adopt this principle refrain from having sex until either in a very stable and loving relationship, or until they are wed.

That being said, many a person will argue that the promiscuous sex part is not a part of the straight edge lifestyle. How wrong they are! Being straight edge means you are against all these poisons that society tells us are acceptable, sex being one of them. Sex is not a poison, no, but doesn't appear blatantly obvious that it is not something that is meant to be done with anyone, just for the hell of it?

Let's point out the obvious here:
Without these modern day artificial means of contraception (condoms, the pill, etc) people would not be able to have sex just because they can. Why not? Well, without these artificial means, every one would be getting pregnant and stuffed full of sexually transmitted diseases.

Society tells us that casual sex is okay, all you need to do to see proof of this is go watch a few episodes of Jerry Springer, go listen to any number of CD's out there, or just read into the lives of the rich and famous; or for that matter; your next door neighbour.

Society giving us that image, fails to give sex any meaning other than that you should do it as much as possible because it feels good. If the world ran on such ridiculous reasoning... anarchy would rule.

So, theres a bit of information about sex. Now, let's look into why it seems that a lot of people living the straight edge lifestyle seem to not abstain from promiscuous sex.

To put things in a rather basic manner it's because yes, it does feel good! (Mind you, I don't speak from experience). But, what these straight edge people seem to forget is that Straight edge is about self control. Where is the self control in casual sex!? There is none. And it just shows a downright lack of morals and, in most cases, lack of self esteem.

A friend once told me that, "It's harder to not have sex than it is to note do drugs; because sex is something you want!" This is, indeed, very true. Sex is something you naturally want. It's human instinct. All this, however, should not mean you just go for it whenever you want! It is a foolish thing to think and i'm sure that most people would agree it just isn't right. I'll tell you one thing now; if you have sex because you love someone, it will feel a hell of a lot better than if you have sex with someone because you can.

So, this little writing having made me forget about what I was originally going to write, shall end there. Let me just stress again though, that being straight edge does involve abstaining from promiscuous sex.
