OK I was readin the paper last week and I found a straightedge bashing article in it. I wrote one in response and tried to turn it in, but, they told me it was to offensive and would cause controversy. You decide...

What is Straightedge? It's a lifestyle that nobody can explain the same. It's attacked by media because the only type thats recognized is "militant", never once have I seen CNN praise the "non-militant" groups which make up a good percentage of the 'scene'. To go brutalize a person at a concert for smoking is totally asinine, but to beat someone for being an Edger is just the same.

I admit that sometimes the peace driven "non-militant" Straight Edgers do act violently, but I can almost guarantee its 99.9% self defense against someone who thinks his/her ideas "just aren't right." To clear up the negative propaganda in the media isn't going to work but to show both sides of the scene. Not just our violent "militant" counterparts, would help us grow.

The idea that we'll beat you if we see you with a beer should be abolished and forgotten. Let our opinions be on the same level as yours.
