Why I Became Straight Edge - by Ryan

Alright so I'm a 16 yr old guy, about to get my licence. Today I vowed to be a straight edge for the rest of my life. I havn't even done drugs, drank or smoked yet though. People have different vews of a straight edge at my school, some think you have to be vegan, some think you can't have sex. I don't know, I eat meat because of 2 reasons:

1. basically I couldnt survive in my house if I was a vegan. Same with my school, I mean damn, Im sure even the salad has meat in it.
2. I eat meat so the animal doesnt have to die in vain!
I refuse to eat veal though. I am mostly into chicken.

Sex...well, hey, come on man...sure one night stands is pretty bad because using girls like that is just lame but I'm defently having sex with the girl I love. Only her though, no others. Im not a player, I refuse to be.

So why Im a straight edge?

Well, my dads an alchohalic. I see him fall down, hurt himself and argue with my mom and I don't want to become that. I hear the kids in my town say shit like "aww man I got so trashed this weekend" and "Wow, my mom found my 5th of vodka in my bedroom" and I think "AWOW! These kids sound soooo dumb!"
Then theres the drugs. I heard saying once "First you smoke pot, then you cant have fun without pot, then you cant live without pot, then before you know it you're the sketchy guy hanging in the town gazebo all day with all the other sketchy guys." My cousin got into pot, that lead to crack, that lead to heroin, that lead to losing his scholarships and going to rehab. My friend who used to be hardcore straightedge is now giving up pot because he doesnt get high enough off it and now hes doing shrooms. He brags about his activities all the time in classes and I think "Damn, what a dumbass, what if the teacher heard him? What if someone told his parents? What if someone ratted this kid out the cops"
and then I realized there are so many of those kids who brag about their drug use, drinking and brush with cops. What a bunch of foobags, honestly!

I don't want to become my father, my cousin, my psuedo-friend or anything else that would fuck me up. That's why im a straight edge.
