Why do People think drugs are so cool?

The average ages of respondants was 16-19 year olds, with the next most common being 13-15 year olds, then 19 year olds to 24 year olds. 55% of respondants were male, the rest female.

i think people do drugs because of the risk involved and the buzz they get. I guess you have to be pretty daring to do drugs meaning depending on what you take, you could be dead within half an our of taking it. I also think people who dont like themselves too much do drugs, people who dont really care if they survive their next trip, people who are only out for a cheap buzz and fell thats worth risking their life for. but i dont want any shit back from anyone for posting my views as i dont do the shit coz i value myself so i guess i cant really comment.

from someone who does em (occassionally ;) I do em b/c I know what's happening in my life, I know what I want and though drugs aren't exactly the key to it, I just know that if I smoke every once in a while it wont affect my future. its not so much that they are cool, but alot of ppl are curious and so they do it and have fun doing it and continue to. most dont even think of consiquences. i know that i dont ever think about it, but ive slowed down TREMENDEOUSLY than a year ago. i just smoke and occasionaly (rare) trip. i feel that trippin opens your soul and mind to so many things you've never thought of before. im glad i did it and i will do it again. not b/c its cool but because of the experiences i gained from it. plus its fun and some others are too, but only on rare rare occasions.
in response to all the angry people who posted before myself, i had done drugs for a solid 5-6 years, now recovering addict, and i ask the same question. although there are the few that start because they know it is going to make them feel good, the majority start to fit in. and that may not be the reason you continue to use it usually is the reason you start.
for me it's not that I think they're cool, it's just that they're fun.

I don't think most people who use think they are necessarily cool, they use so they feel better mentally and emotionally. It's like taking anti-depressants for depression, it depresses your brain and makes you feel happy for a short while, but it ends up killing you fast. I understand why people would use drugs though. I personally believe alot people need to take drugs just to be stable
No one I know thinks drugs are cool. They just do them because they like them. The people who do drugs because they are cool are the ones who are being affected by all the media and propaganda labeling them bad. So these kids think that doing them will make them cool rather than making their own personal choice. Drugs aren't evil or bad, people say that because they need something to blame for the way they acted while on the drug. Rather than take responsibility for their actions they blame it on the substance. Just as people use being drunk as an excuse to act stupid and loud when actually when yo are drunk you are fully aware of what you are doing to some extent. People need to have more mental control over themselves and stop blaming external factors for what is actually an internal problem.
The truth is drugs are the most uncoolest thing ever. I used to be a drug user and at the time it was the best thing that ever happened to me, both me and my boyfrined used to do it together and I felt on top of the world but after a while I felt we were drifting apart because of it and I told him I was going to stop, he stopped as well coz he didint wan2 lose me. Drugs would have torn us part in the end, luckily we managed to escape before it was too late. Life live for what it is not what chemicals can do. x

I guess cause it makes them feel good,makes them forget their problems, but see that is stupid. After your highness, buzz, or whatever, your problems are still there. Drugs are stupid and if you take them you are stupid. I used to but, I found out the hard way that they can screw you up. So, dont take them.

Well i for one think it's cool cuz it makes you feel fuckin awesome. But I think other more shallow people think they're cool cuz it's a rebellious thing to do and it gives the appearance that you don't care too much about your health, which makes you out to be a badass punk, and many people think drugs are the only path to that image.

drugs are cool because in my case they are a well deserved break from reality without which I'd probably go insane. And those who yell out against them usually have never tried them or just didn't have the right experience. its like sex: the timing, environment, and people/person have to be just right.
for those who actually do think they are cool ( god knows) i believe it's just the appearance, or history. People associate things with another, it's called conditioning(no not the hair thing). Some believe it will help them achieve something that otherwise they wouldn't be able to.

People (teenagers) think drugs are so cool because they recognize them as a way to have fun rather than a substance which can largely/fataly alter one's life. All people think about when they think of drugs is that they are an escape from reality, which they feel the desperatley need at that time. Sign my tagbook plz! :)
at first it's like a grown up thing to do. then you see that a lot of people are doing it, so you want to fit in. i prefer not to mess with my body like that.

when you do drugs u are happy and in a good mood. It is like another world. There are know worries and you can see and feel almost anything. Its a great feeling but it not the right answer to your problems!

Its all about the thrill of doing something wrong. Why do people commit crimes? Part of it is the thrill or breaking the law. So I saw part of it is just to feel all high and mighty about doin something they know is wrong.
Hey I don't think that drugs are cool i don't do "Drugs" I drink a hell of a lot but I don't conciter that bad...
